I think part of the polaroid is nostalgia, but also because it's a medium that was/is nearly obsolete and disappearing.

(AND my clients seem to love it when they can take home a keepsake of their engagements day-of. But that is just me. And I use the Fuji version. Since Pola is about $4 picture right now. Ouch.)

Love the nostalgia. And I guess what I don't get is why people must over edit and give ALL their pics a Polaroid-look.

I think the whole polardroid thing started because of the great photographers out there who use Polaroid as a medium - and it looks great, but not everyone has a polaroid so we do what we can in Photoshop.

And I do think the *idea* of a scarf and jeans is cute.

It's hard to not come off as rude when saying this...

A digital camera doesn't give you an instant print, and more than an MP3 gives you an LP to hold in your hands. Many of us Polaroid (note the capital P) enthusiasts don't scan our prints, or scan only a very few of them.

Nobody can "make a Polaroid in Photoshop" nor in Piknik nor at poladroid.com

Maybe you had to be alive in 1970s and old enough to realize the magic that Dr. Land showed us as the culmination of his decades long quest to satisfy his daughter's query.

If you wanna be a hipster that's fine, but Polaroid was there long before Von Dutch hats and skinny jeans, and The Impossible Project willing, will be there long after.

There is a certain magic to real Polaroids. We're not just talking about the frame or the fake/photoshop/polaDroid ones. Like fotografzahl said, it's a sensory experience, and no digital simulation comes close to it.

I really don't understand people who make fake Polaroids. What's the point? It smacks of "all style, no substance", because it's like all they care about is that white border. 99% of the ones I have seen are really ugly, with all the wrong colours and dodgy vignetting (like the one used in the scarf above).

Anyone taking/enjoying real Polaroids recognizes at once the fake computer software wannabe-Polaroid-pictures.
These can be nice as well, but they are not "the real thing".

Taking a Polaroid picture is not just about pushing a release button.
Holding a film in your hands which has very unique colors, a certain smell, holding the paper in your fingers while you watch as the pictures appears gradually before your eyes cannot be compared with a software emulation...

I like shooting digital photos, of course, but taking real Polaroids is a celebration of photography - almost the opposite of shooting right away without taking your time for composing a picture, as so many people do nowadays.

I don't think you're any less of a "real" blogger for not using Polaroids. Things can be overdone. The look is cool, but the convenience of digital is awesome. Plus, have you have checked out thePicnik (picnik.com) photoediting site? You can upload digital pictures and turn them into "polaroids."

it holds more nostalgia for me than anything. all of my baby/child photos are in polaroids. the first photo of me ever at the hospital was a polaroid.

plus it's magic when it appears slowly. it's just more romantic than digital for me :) you never really know what will appear on the image
