So it is Wednesday. The awards were Sunday. I'm a day or three late. So I'd given up on a Globes post. But then the dresses! I'm a fan of awards dresses. I need to do something more fancy in life.
So these are the modest -- and pretty -- dresses of the Golden Globes. In my humble opinion of course.
My favorite knock-out went to the Brothers and Sisters star. Hubs and I are huge Brothers and Sisters fans so I was happy about this one.
Calista Flockhart. She looks like a goddess. I love it. I like the knotted necklace, the loose hair (though does she need her roots done?) and the man accessory isn't so bad either. I want this dress. Photo from Evil Beet.
Cameron Diaz. Loved the structure of the sleeves and draping. Don't know if I like that the bodice comes to a point. Love that there is fabric underneath the draping so the dress isn't too hooch. Photo from Eliza Mag.
Julia Roberts. This was a maybe to me. Loved the chunky jewelry and the legs. Proof that long sleeves can work. Almost bohemian but not quite. Vintage YSL. Photo from Just Jared.
January Jones. I love the headband. It was a risk and she wound up on some worst-dressed lists for it. But it looked great. Can't confirm what the back of the dress looked like, but it does have sleeves. Photo from Evil Beet.
Usually the modest dresses seem to have something in common. Color, sparkle, silhouette. Something that sets the style. This year I think it was that they had a structured element -- the sleeves, ruffled bodice, something. Except for Miss Flockhart, who just looks incredible.

It's fun seeing a "modesty" review, especially since I don't watch so I only end up seeing the Best/Worst dresses splashed all over the covers at the supermarket. I agree, Calista's dress is my fav.
I LOVE Brothers & Sisters! It's one I have to watch every week! And I own every season of it I love it so much!
I love them all except for Julia's. She looks a little thrown together in comparison.
I like these as well. I think being a fashion designer would be so cool, coming up with all the new trends and using such great colors and textures. Calista's dress is my favorite!
Calista Flockhart is about to fly away on the wind because she is so skinny. Oh goodness.
I really love Calista's dress! And I love these updates, about modest dresses. Such a change and it's refreshing! More, more, more! :)
I loved Julia! I thought she looked very happy and seemed to really be enjoying her evening! She has so much more confidence now when she is on the red carpet!
I also loved Sandra Bullock that night. The color she was wearing looked fabulous on her!
And though Calista is rail thin (she always has been) she looked beautiful. And her best accessory was Han Solo! LOL
Thanks for stopping by on Tuesday and sharing my SITS day with me!

OK I just have to say.. I can appreciate modesty, etc. but I don't know why "sleeves" really make a difference, especially because, well, whats so sexy about shoulders? and is January Jones' dress really 'modest' just because it has pretend wanna-be sleeves? because if anyone bigger than a Double A cup was wearing it there would be some major side-boobage going on!!! don't get me wrong, i like the dress (and ESPECIALLY the first one you posted i think is just GORGEOUS)
Jenny - it is true. Modesty is all an opinion thing. I stick with the "sleeves and to the knees and minimal cleavage" policy -- but to be fair there are a lot of dresses with straps that are more modest/less sexual than ones with sleeves -- I'm thinking like off the shoulder or short numbers. Or there are short numbers that are conservative on top.
