Interview experiment

I'm taking part in Neil Kramer's Citizen of the Month Great Interview Experiment 2009.

Though the selections for interviewee and interviewer were almost random (based on order of comments) I had a lot in common with the gals I was paired up with.

My interview by Average Jane is posted today. She's a social media gal too -- and is a rockstar by night.

I interviewed Sarah from Sarah and the Goon Squad. She is a writer for many blogs and an editor of BlogHer. She is living the life I want to live when I have kids.

Here goes:
1. What is your favorite place in DC? I have been there a few times and enjoyed it -- but what do you love most as a resident?

The thing I love most as a resident is that this place has everything. Seriously, anything you could ask for (except a really nice beach) is something you can find here. There are two famous places I never get sick of - The National Gallery and The Kennedy Center.

2. How did you get your start as a writer? I am a fledging myself.

I started blogging when my twins were one and I really needed an outlet to talk to adults. I was never interested in being a writer and I was very surprised at how quickly it became a passion.

3. How do you find writing opportunities?

Do you mean time to write or writing jobs?

If you mean time to write - I generally slack on all of my other responsibilities. It frees up a lot of time.

If you mean jobs - I network. It is just like real life, you can either apply or you hear about opportunities from people you know.

4. Where does your inspiration for posts come from?

Real life.

5. What's the best part about having twins?

The HOV lane and not having to play ring around the rosie.

Also - I never have to be pregnant again.

6. What's the craziest part about having twins?

Everything seems to happen at the same time. When they were babies it was torture. I honestly slept no more than two hours a night for six months and those two hours were never consecutive. I had auditory hallucinations. Potty training was also pretty nuts.

My pregnancy and delivery were pretty insane too, but I don't want to scare your innocent readers.

7. How do you follow your dreams and balance family, budget, etc.

Follow dreams? Balance? Budget? What are these words you are saying to me? I don't. I play defense. I do whatever I need to right then, it just so happens that sometimes that thing is a writing deadline or a thought that has to come out.

8. Awhile ago, you wrote about learning to say no (I struggle with that!) -- any tips?

Saying no is hard, especially since I also had to work so diligently on saying yes with my kids. I try to make it my default and look for a reason to say yes instead of the other way around. We all need to learn not to over-commit or we will go crazy - or alternately end up canceling a lot of things as the last minute and looking like gigantic a**holes.
I haven't ever been one to participate in a lot of blogging carnivals or whatever, but I enjoyed connecting with these women for sure.

By the way - if you have any questions for me based on whatever, ask them and I will answer in a later post. Asking questions on posts always scares me because I'm pretty sure the only commenter will be my husband asking what we're eating for dinner tonight, but I've seen other people ask this on blog posts before and its fun. So here goes.

I also want to know what you are having for dinner. I'm hungry.

Also, what is the best book you ever read?

Where do you and Adam see yourself after law school? Would you want to stay in CA or move back to UT?

Worst thing you've ever done?

Does it weird you out that random people from your past read your blog and you have NO IDEA (because everybody's blog has a few of those)?

Fav. blogs?

How do you blog everyday? (IT'S SO FREAKING HARD YOU ARE NABLOPOMO ALL THE TIME!)

I know this is late but I'm just getting around to my G.Reader so I thought I'd post some questions since I'm a new reader:

1. What's your number one tip for a happy marriage?
2. How did you meet your hubby?
3. Where do you see yourself this time next year?

Happy to be part of
