A fancier date

Date night on Friday was Kemo Sabe in Hillcrest.

It is my goal to try every restaurant in the Cohn family while we live in San Diego. They have a reputation for being delicious and fabulous.

I've been to Corvette Diner, it was a little bit crazy for the 2-year-old we were with, but extremely family oriented. They just changed locations, so we may need to go back. I don't know if the old location counts.

First course was the Navajo bi pie. Grilled chicken, prawns, kemo glaze, roasted corn, goat cheese, black beans and pepita pesto (no, I'm not a memory genius, I copied that straight off the menu)

Oh wow it was way good. I just loved how many flavors their were in it. It all kept changing in your mouth.

But it was followed up by the entree, Skirts on Fire -- charbroiled skirt steak, rice sticks, thai chile, mandarin-serrano relish and black beans.

OK look at that meal. Juicy, absolutely spicy steak, more carrots than lettuce on the salad, black beans and mandarin oranges. I would actually eat salad all the time if it tasted like that.

The quesadillas were yum too.
Husband and I split everything. The servings are huge. Its how we can afford to eat out at a fancier place. So for all the people who have told me that the servers likely hate my table, oh well. We are doing what we can do. And a table for one usually takes up two chairs, correct?

Our mouths were burning up after eating that spicy steak. It was delicious, but hot in a Thai-meets-peppers sort of way.

In order to mend that problem, we got the creme brulee and pot de creme. The brulee was better than the pot -- but that's because it was dark chocolate and I'm not a fan. Both were rich - the type of dessert that one bit made me melt.

In review, the entire meal was such a fabulous combination of tastes and delights. I wish I could cook like Chef Deborah Scott.

I'd read earlier that day that there was free Pinkberry, and I couldn't say no to that, especially because it was in walking distance (I may have planned that). So we went. All the while I was wondering if it was really free. It was.

Perfect topper to the evening. I'll vouch for them - their new flavors are delicious. I however can't justify spending so much, when there are so many other cheaper yogurt places around.

I don't know why people say that the server probably hated you...I mean...you're getting an appetizer, a full price meal AND dessert. That's got to be close to 2 full price entrees, right?

Besides, in this economy - they should be grateful you are even EATING THERE.

Happy to be part of
